TREP, the TRansposable Elements Platform

Full classification: DNA-transposon, TIR, P

P elements are Class 2 transposons.

They are found in animals and plants. Well characterised in animals (Drosophila). Upon insertion, they create a 8 bp Target site duplication (TSD).

TIR5: Terminal inverted repeat
Function: Contains motifs that are recognized and bound by the transposase. Essential for transposition.
