Merlin elements are Class 2 transposons.

They are found in animals and some other eukaryotes. Not so well characterised. Upon insertion, they create a 8-9 bp Target site duplication (TSD).

Function: Contains motifs that are recognized and bound by the transposase. Essential for transposition.
